Courses

Teach the course,
then unlock the exam.

Build each course in sections of video, PDF, text and quiz lessons. Run it self-paced or in dated batches, and completing it can unlock an exam.

  • Four kinds of lesson

Video, PDF, text and quiz lessons in sections, each opening when you choose.

  • Self-paced or in batches

Let each candidate start when they’re enrolled, or run dated intakes that start together.

  • An exam at the end

Attach an exam, and completing the course unlocks it, enrolling the candidate on it. A Course Product leaves it out.

Sections and Lessons

Build the course in sections and lessons

A course is Lessons in Sections, in the order you set. Org Admins set it up, and the Instructors they name on it build its content.

  • Video, up to 3 hours, which the Course player never offers for download; PDF, which it can if you allow it; and Text, in Markdown.
  • Quiz: untimed, with as many tries as candidates like and its own pass mark. The answers show once it’s passed, and it never counts towards an exam.
  • Drip opens a Lesson some days after each candidate’s Course start, and Prerequisites hold it until earlier Lessons are Complete.

Batches

Run it in batches, or self-paced

A Self-paced course starts when each candidate is enrolled. Or run it in Batches: dated intakes, each with a start date, and an end date and a number of places if you want them.

  • Drip counts from the Batch’s start date, however late a candidate joins it.
  • Each Batch is Upcoming, Running or Ended, from its dates. The end date only stops new enrolments: the Batch’s candidates can still finish.
  • A candidate who buys the course chooses a Batch that hasn’t ended and has room. An Org Admin can move them to another.

Progress

Candidates see how far they’ve got, and so do you

Progress is how many of a course’s Required Lessons a candidate has Complete. They see theirs in the Course player, with each Lesson’s state, and Org Admins see everyone’s in Course progress.

  • A Video is Complete once 90% of it has been played, a PDF or Text when the candidate marks it so, and a Quiz once passed.
  • A Lesson switched to Optional doesn’t count towards Progress.
  • A Locked Lesson says why: the day it opens, or the Lessons to finish first.

Attached exam

Completing the course unlocks the exam

Attach an exam to the course. When a candidate completes the course, they’re enrolled on the exam and emailed, unless they bought a Course Product, which leaves the exam out.

  • Course completion: every Required Lesson Complete. It’s recorded once, and never undone, even if Lessons are added later.
  • Until then, the exam waits at the end of the Course player, Locked. A Course Product’s buyers see it Not included, with Buy if its Exam Product is on sale.
  • One exam can be attached to several courses.

Products

Sell it

Sell the course as a Product, alone or with its exam, free or at a Price in US dollars. Candidates buy it from your Catalogue and pay by card at Checkout.

  • Coupons take a percentage or a fixed amount off, once per candidate, with a Usage limit and an expiry if you want them.
  • Every Order is listed under Commerce, and a Paid one emails the candidate a Receipt.
  • Refunds are in full, and only until the candidate starts: an Org Admin asks us for one.

FAQ

Something else? Write to us.

How do candidates join a course?

They buy it from your Catalogue, or enrol there if it’s free, choosing a Batch if it has them. An Org Admin can also enrol them by email. They then find it under My courses.

Who builds a course?

An Org Admin sets it up and can build it. They can also name Instructors on it, who build its Sections and Lessons but not its setup.

Do quizzes count towards the exam?

No. Quizzes let candidates check their own learning, as often as they like. Passing one completes its Lesson, which counts towards Progress, not the exam.

Can a course run without an exam?

Yes. The Attached exam is optional, and a course without one is still completed once every Required Lesson is Complete.

Can we change a course once it’s running?

Yes. Edits to a Published course go live at once, and a new Lesson shows to candidates once its content is complete. Anyone who has completed the course stays completed.

Can a course switch between self-paced and batches?

Yes, until its first candidate is enrolled. From then on it’s fixed.
